CONSEQUENCES

CONSEQUENCES

Men reap the consequences for their actions. Galatians 6:7-8, TLB. “Don’t be misled; remember that you can’t ignore God and get away with it: a man will always reap just the kind of crop he sows! If he sows to please his own wrong desires, he will be planting seeds of evil and he will surely reap a harvest of spiritual decay and death; but if he plants the good things of the Spirit, he will reap the everlasting life which the Holy Spirit gives him.”
Matthew 7:1-2 teaches that You will be treated in the same way you treat others. “Don’t criticize, and then you won’t be criticized. For others will treat you as you treat them.”
Ezekiel 18:20 teaches that the person who sins will die. A son will not be punished for his father’s sins, and a father will not be punished for his son’s sins. The righteousness of the righteous person will be his own, and the wickedness of the wicked person will be his own.
Deuteronomy 11:26–28 states, Today I’m giving you the choice of a blessing or a curse. You’ll be blessed if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I’m giving you today. You’ll be cursed if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God, if you turn from the way I’m commanding you to live today, and if you worship other gods you never knew.
Those who create harm for others often experience that same harm returning to them (Prov 26:27)a which is a principle woven throughout Scripture. Nations and individuals receive back what they have given (Obad 15), and what people have done returns to them (Isa 3:10–11). This isn’t merely poetic; it reflects how destructive schemes inherently contain seeds of self-destruction.
All people must appear before Christ’s judgment seat to receive what they deserve for good or evil done in their bodies (2 Cor 5:10). Everyone will give an account of themselves to God (Rom 14:12), and after death comes judgment (Heb 9:27). The Son of Man will come in glory and pay back each person based on what they have done (Matt 16:27).
Scripture encourages considering outcomes when making decisions. The Bible frequently encourages readers to consider consequences of their actions, with Proverbs full of warnings and promises spelling out likely outcomes. In the biblical worldview, God controls consequences—they are God’s rewards and punishments for behavior he approves or condemns.
God’s evaluation of consequences extends to every dimension of human life. God judges everything done, including every secret matter whether good or bad (Eccles 12:14). Even careless words spoken will be accounted for on judgment day, determining whether people are declared innocent or guilty (Matt 12:36–37). The Lord searches minds and tests hearts, rewarding each person for what they have done and the results of their actions (Jer 17:10).
